Portland city guide

Portland has seen a renaissance of sorts over the past few years. A housing boom, new residents and restaurants have fueled and made Portland one of the finest and friendliest cities on the West Coast. Portland is home to what seems like more city parks that any other city in the US. It also has quick access to some great state parks, the Columbia river gorge, trendy art galleries, restaurants and clubs that compete with health food stores and brewpubs for your attention.

So what is there to do in Portland you ask. Well Luke, plenty there is. Portland is an outdoor lovers paradise, where hiking and river running seem to go hand in hand. If you are limited on time and you want to get out into the fresh air check out Tom Mc Call waterfront park or Washington park. TMcCWP was once a freeway for cars, now it is one for runners and lovers of the outdoors close to the heart of the city. The latter is an oasis of green with an Aboretum, a Japanese garden, a Vietnam vets and Holocaust memorials and the Washington Park Zoo. OK, so you are done walking around and are now looking for some good eats. Well my friend, Portland will not let you down! Restaurants like McCormick & Schmick's & BridgePort brewpub offer great eats and are old standards while Sushi, Chinese, Seafood and some hidden trendy hangouts like Shanghai Tunnel really make Portland shine. Whatever you choose, whether its tapas or meatloaf you will not be dissappointed.
